This mother of pearl jewellery box has been produced through sophisticated lacquer work and inlaying mother of pearl by artisan with 100% manual work. Inlaying good quality lacquer with mother of pearl has been a well known speciality for centuries and remains luxury items until today. Lacquerware is produced by plastering hemp cloth on wooden objects and applying multi coats of lacquer mixed with charcoal powder and rice glue. When dry, the surface is ground smooth before it is carved and inlaid with pieces of shell (mother of pearl). After the first inlaying process completed, the surface is lacquered and ground repeatedly for smooth, lustrous surface.

This is beautifully hand crafted mother of pearl jewellery box with mirror fitted inside of the lid. Shimmering colors of mother of pearl inlaid on top of the box in oriental motif - 2 peacocks. Easy to open with metal ornamental tortoise pull.
